New Boston Fire Department Equipment: 76-Engine 5

Truck Name: 76-Engine 5
Manufacturer: 1991 KME Attack Pumper
Capabilities: Structure fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents

This red and white engine is maintained by the Air Force, who staffed the equipment until the station was demilitarized. It provides coverage for the base, our town and the Chestnut Hill area of Amherst. It has a 600 gallon tank and pumps 1,000 gal/min. It reaches 1,000 feet with 4 in hose, 500 feet with the 2-1/2 in hose. It also carries 3 SCBA, the jaws of life with a full set of tools, and a thermal imager that belongs to the USAF. They allow us the use of the imager and jaws of life when needed. You will notice that this truck has the pumper console in the center, not on the side as the our other trucks do. This truck is one that has an interesting history. It was once a flightline firefighting apparatus at Patrick AFB in Florida prior to its arrival to New Boston. It is housed at Hilltop.
