Burn Permits for the Town of New Boston

Permits are required by state law if the burn area is not completely surrounded by snow. Burning permits are free, and are given only when the fire hazard is low. There is a short period of time, after the winter snows melt and before there are leaves on the trees, when there will be no burning permits given. The other are restrictions with permits are:

  • You can not obtain a permit on a windy day.
  • You can not burn in woods, only on a mineral soil.
  • You may only burn between the hours of 5pm and 9am, unless it is raining.
  • Only the property owner can obtain a permit.
  • Nothing larger in diameter than 5 inches.
  • No tires, plastics, or building materials.
  • Fire must be extinguished upon request of any fire department members.
  • The fire must be attended and under control at all times. You may be liable for fire department expenses if it's out of control.

If you are found to be burning without a permit, you will be fined and liable for fire department expenses if it's out of control. The current fine is $1,000.00. The following contacts are the only ones who can issue a permit.
